The Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Colombo has succeeded in finding a nutritional drug that kills cancer cells.

Cancer, if not detected and treated at an early stage, is fatal.



Globally, about 15 million people die of cancer every year, and in Sri Lanka, the number of people who die of cancer every year is up to 20,000.
In this situation, following research conducted for about 15 years since 2010, the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Colombo has succeeded in discovering a nutritional drug .

This nutritional medicine that kills cancer cells has been prepared using 5 medicinal plants using modern scientific methods such as molecular biology and network pharmacology.

The team involved in the study, including Professor Sameera R. Samarakoon, says that a combination of drugs obtained from the plants Vernonia zeylanica, Nigella sativa, Hemidesmus indicus, Leucas zeylanica, Smilax glabra can destroy cancer cells
